Since our school days we only know that father of our nation is Mahatma Gandhiji.History however holds that the title of Father of the Nation was given to the Mahatma by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who in his address on Singapore Radio on July 6, 1944 has addressed Mahatma Gandhi as Father of the Nation.Gandhi's contribution to the Indian freedom movement cannot be measured in words. He, along with other freedom fighters, compelled the British to leave India. His policies and agendas were non-violent and his words were the source of inspiration for millions. From there he was called as "Father of our Nation".But our Indian Constitution don't have Official record about title Father of our Nation is Gandhiji. Our Indian Constitution Article 18 (1) , said that it does not permit any titles except education and military ones.Hence, in the present day we call him ‘Father of the Nation’. Though he is not given this tittle officially, but his work has inspired us to call him ‘The Father of the Nation’.
